1951 Hudson Hornet

History and Design

The Hornet made its debut in September 1950 alongside the other Hudson models. It was based on the deluxe-sized body platform, thus making it the first "full-size" Hudson Hornet. The new Hornet was available in three body styles: a two-door club coupe, a four-door sedan, and a four-door station wagon. The Hornet was restyled for 1951, with a new grille and revised taillights. It also received a power boost, with the base engine now producing 160 horsepower. The Twin-H Power engine was still available, but it was now optional on all Hornet models.

Performance and Handling

The Hornet was one of the fastest cars of its day. The base engine could propel the car from 0 to 60 mph in under 10 seconds, while the Twin-H Power engine could do it in under 8 seconds. The Hornet also handled well, thanks to its independent front suspension and coil-spring rear suspension.
