Bronny James Cleared for NBA Draft

USC Freshman Medically Approved

Transfer Portal Option Remains Open

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) — Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has been medically cleared to participate in the NBA Draft after one season at the University of Southern California.

The NBA's Fitness to Play Panel informed teams on Monday that it had cleared James, who missed part of his freshman season due to a cardiac issue.

James, 19, played 23 games for the Trojans during the 2023-24 season, averaging 4.8 points per game. He declared for the NBA Draft in April and also entered the transfer portal, giving him multiple options for his next step.

James is expected to be a first-round pick in the draft, which is scheduled for June 22. He is the youngest player to be cleared by the Fitness to Play Panel since it was established in 2010.

The clearance is a significant step for James, who has long been considered one of the top prospects in his class. He is expected to join a growing number of young players who are entering the NBA Draft after only one year of college basketball.
